

Vonarburg's responses reveal her sense of humor, her irreverence for sacred cows-including feminism itself-as well as her personal experiences as a woman writer. This part of the interview, transcribed by Laura Thompson, contains several questions formulated by the students themselves. The first part of the interview that follows thus focuses largely on the early career of Vonarburg, since the students were reading her Chroniques du Pays des Meres (1992). (ACSUS) Fund for the Arts, Vonarburg's visit to Georgetown also included a recorded interview in French with myself and the three students who were taking my undergraduate tutorial on "Women's Wor(l)ds in the Quebec Novel" that spring. Partially funded through a grant from the Quebec Ministere des relations internationales and the Association for Canadian Studies in the U.S. In April of 2006, Georgetown University's French Department held a Symposium on French and Francophone Science Fiction, at which Elisabeth Vonarburg was the guest of honor.
